Sustainable Bee Keeping

Led by Bees for Development (Dr Nicola Bradbear)

2010

"I feel enthused and inspired to go out and do it! It was a really great introduction – if you ever do a follow-up course I’ll be there. I’ll definitely recommend it to anyone I know who’s thinking about keeping bees." May 2009

Modern Bee Keeping has concentrated on maximising production from managed hives at the expense of long term sustainability of honey bee populations that are now collapsing.

This course brings the internationally recognised expertise of Bees for Development to focus on our predicament here in the UK. It is a new look at the relationship between humans and honey bees. The weekend course will cover their role, value and products, and focus on how we can manage our mutual relationship to ensure their survival.

Honey bee populations are collapsing. We must ask urgent questions about the sustainability of current approaches to keeping bees. This introduction to bees and beekeeping considers how we can redress the balance and be kinder to bees.

Course outline
