A two week Permaculture design course for individuals working
within a group to bring about change.
“Permaculture for Groups will not only teach you
how to design land using Permaculture principles but it will also
equip you to use Permaculture in any group situation.
This course aims to place Permaculture at the heart of the design
process for a group. It also recognises that other skills are
needed in order to make a group resilient. It is this mixture
of Permaculture, Holistic Management, and Facilitation that will
make Permaculture for Groups an exciting course. We will be running
the course every year to build up a body of people who can form
a peer support group and develop this synthesis!
The course is suitable for
• Transition groups
• Community leaders/Teachers
• Permaculture designers
• Tenants groups
• CSA’s, Low carbon groups
• Movers and
• Shakers
Permaculture provides
excellent principles and practices for the physical placement
of elements in a landscape in the right relationship. It involves
looking at the functions of each element in the landscape (fields,
crops, livestock, roads, buildings, waterways, etc), and planning
them so they support each other. As climate change brings unpredictable
weather patterns, permaculture design assumes more importance
building a resilient landscape that is buffered against drought
and flooding. These ecological principles form the backbone of
the course syllabus. We hope to keep a balance of land and people,
and theory and practical!
Interspersed throughout the week will be a series of related
practical sessions on Ragman’s farm. Furthermore, as the
emphasis is on facilitation of a process, we will use the practical
sessions to explore ways of involving and encouraging people to
get onto the land without a fear of failure.
The timetable leaves time in the evening for walks to the pub
(10 mins), or sitting round a fire and even a hot tub!
